About Sawtell Ignite

Team Members

The team members are all volunteers, and come from numerous churches: Anglican, Baptist, Presbyterian, Evangelical Brethren and others. They are come primarily from Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong, with a couple of Coffs Coast locals as well. Not only do they volunteer their time, they pay to cover the costs of their meals and equipment. They do this because they want to serve the community of Sawtell, bringing them the good news about Jesus Christ.

History

There exact start date for SUFM at Sawtell is not known; but collective memory suggests that there has been a Scripture Union presence at Sawtell Caravan park since the 1940s. In recent history, Sawtell Summer Mission operated out of Sawtell Caravan Park, sleeping in large tents and running programs in the ten days immediately after Christmas. In 2006-07, there was a large shift in focus: Sawtell SUFM moved out of the caravan park so that it would be closer to the people of Sawtell (and Toormina), and is now based at Toormina Public School. The timing also changed, moving to the middle of January, and the name of the primary morning activities changed to Sawtell Ignite.
